Armin,
You have a very strong understanding of the Yip Man style and history it seems so let me ask you this and others that care to answer.
In no particular order who might you consider the top 10 Yip Man Students?

Hi Cang Long,
I'd take (nearly) the same list as Hungman - but without Bruce Lee. But that's a matter of personal opinion.
Hm, well, Hungman: you forgot the most important one, the Master of Almightyness, Mister (W)Ving Tsun himself, the one and only - Leung Ting!!! :p
To be honest, I don't have that much knowledge of and about the students Yip Man had, to create such a ranking (btw: Hungman, before someone's p***ed off - you wrote the list in loose order, not saying anything about their knowledge or skills, right?).
Arent' there more 'left'? Sorry, I really don't know. Never gave a though to it. Maybe I get to know at least some of these masters, maybe than I can tell something. Again: sorry!
Armin.

Just get yourself a copy of the VTM meetings they had in Hong Kong back in 99' (i have downloaded a copy so it is available) There you will see alot of the senior Yip Man students demonstrating and IMO the most impressive by far were William Cheung and Yip Chun with William being the most impressive, but this is probably due to the fact that he is a professional MA instructor for the last 30 yrs or so. Just my opinion...

Mark Bo Hungman,
Thank you for your list. Mark Bo is the only name I am unfimiliar with I will have to research him to learn more about this family of Wing chun.I'd take (nearly) the same list as Hungman - but without Bruce Lee. But that's a matter of personal opinion. Armin.
Thanks for the reply. Care to explain more about Bruce Lee?
Sihing,
Thanks for that bit of information although my interest is mainly to see what the consensus is among todays practitioners or even if there is a consensus.

Hi Cang Long,
yea, no problem. Nearly all martial artists started their carreer due to Bruce Lee's movies. Not me. I started with martial arts because of Kwai Chung Kaine (sp.?) / the serial 'Kung Fu' with David Carradine. Even 5 or 6 years old, I saw the difference in reality of the fights comparing these movies. In my eyes ol' Bruce was to willing to fight. Kaine didn't want to fight, even when bullied around. He just picked up his flute and walked away.
Ok, that was my first impression. Bruce Lee's system Jeet Kune Do, well, it's a bit like mixed martial arts - IMO. Some Ving Tsun, some boxing, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, wrestling, Judo, whatever. Why? Because Yip Man didn't teach everything/the whole system to Bruce Lee? I don't know, and to be honestly, I don't care.
Don't get me wrong. Bruce Lee sure was a great fighter and a big movie-star. But his message wasn't meant for me. That's all.
And Bruce Lee's system died with him.
Armin.

Hi Cang Long,
sorry to you and everone here - at the moment I have so much to do, that even in my 'standard-posting time' 6 am, there's not time enough to take part in discussions, the way I would like to.
But that will change soon (only one more week) - than I will have more time. You all, prepare to start reading stuff with strong german accent!!! :D
Best wishes,
Armin.
