Greetings all. I will be buying GM Yip Man's DVD's from the Ving Tsun Museum. Would anyone be so kind as to tell me if there are any Yip Man Masters in America who would offer corrections for the materials I'll be learning from the DVD's?

Learn from the DVDs or tapes is like monkey see, monkey do, for comparing notes is fine but not for learning as a beginner.
That's my 2 cents.

Alasko,
You bought the footage of GM Ip Man demonstrating the forms. There's no discussion or education on that tape. You should really get a copy of the Ip Man Instructional Series by the VTM. Those tapes/dvds are designed to educate you about what you're doing and why.
Go here to see the series (http://shop.vtmuseum.org/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=8_3)
Also, the VTM has a long-distance training program avaialble as well. You can get in touch with me if you'd like more information.
Wing Chun is an art you cannot judge by looks. You really have to understand the concepts and principles. I can say that the above series is really the best on the market in explaining the theory and concepts. Most tapes or dvds mostly show moves or aren't professionally produced.
And, just as nojack pointed out - you also need another person to build skill.
Sincerely,
Sifu Meng

Hi Benny,
Just one question. When I went to the link, there is a DVD available on Shaolin Wing Chun, is this a DVD on Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun or Yip Man Wing Chun? What can one expect to see and learn from this DVD? Just curious...Thanks in Advance.

Sorry I missed your question. This is sort-of a “loaded question.”
Most people look at Hung Fa Yi as a style coming from Shaolin but I look at Hung Fa Yi is the accumulation of Shaolin wisdom from 1000s of years which maintains its original wisdom from Shaolin through the Saam Mo Kiu philosophy. Hung Fa Yi was born in the Weng Chun Tong, a place named after the highest level of Saam Mo Kiu. “Weng” literally means Everlasting or Eternal and comes from Weng Kiu within Saam Mo Kiu. Saam Mo Kiu is a methodology and philosophy that allows us to identify with all martial art systems and styles as well as go beyond the box of martial arts as well. Saam Mo Kiu points to levels of awareness.
In brief, there are three bridges of awareness:
Fau Kiu means “wandering” and refers to someone with no awareness of technique, timing or distance. Someone that is Fau Kiu throws out whatever based on emotion and power.
Saan Kiu means “awareness” and refers to someone with an awareness of technique, timing, and distance. Someone that is in Saan Kiu understands and can apply techniques – this is the level of Effectiveness.
Weng Kiu means “focus” and refers to someone with total clarity of time, space, and energy. Someone that is in Weng Kiu expresses universal laws in his movements – this is the level of Maximum Efficiency, the point or state where nothing can be added or subtracted without losing efficiency. At this level, there is no such thing as winning or losing – you can’t beat Nature, itself.
The DVD follows in the traditions of the Southern Shaolin Temple and presents fundamentals of Shaolin, namely Basic Exercise and Basic Movements, as well as foundational lectures on the different Martial Art activities, and Four Ranges of Combat. Shaolin traditionally focused on Heaven, Human and Earth training. Heaven refers to Long Kicking, Long Striking and Short Kicking. Human refers to Short Striking, Knees, Elbows, and Trapping. Earth refers to Grappling, Throwing, Sweeps, and Submissions. From a Hung Fa Yi point of view, the training falls into the Saan Kiu layer where the focus is on developing timing, distance, and energy.
For Weng Kiu training, you need actual experience and input from the Master Instructor. This method, called Hou Chyun San Sau, is required for Weng Kiu learning. Therefore, it is not customary for the HFY family to produce a video of information at that level. People would only see the techniques without understanding the meaning. Ultimately, the Hung Fa Yi is one system that allows practitioners to understand all styles of martial arts.
Based on my experience, Hung Fa Yi represents one of the highest levels of martial arts in the Shaolin Temples.

Hi Benny,
Thanks for your reply. Actually I ordered a copy and received it yesterday. I've watched it twice so far. Good work by all, and looking forward to the next level to come out...
