Hi all
There are valid reasons for why one should step with the ball or heel of the foot. Current TWC teaching is to step with the ball of the foot. Approx 20 years ago the teaching was the heel, and now I notice there are mix within the same org. I have all the avail vid/dvd's and I see some, not all heel stepping. I personally see the benefits of both (correct tool for task). I am a follower of the TWC system but would like some clarification, any advice will furthers my learning.
Thank you

IMO, you should step with balance down the middle of the foot whenever possible, BUT the reality of the thing is you will not always achieve perfection while in combat. So saying this I would advocate at the least to step with the ball of the foot, as stepping with the heel puts you off balance and the weight is back rather than more centered.
Just my 2 cents.

Hi Guys,
I have heard that some Tai Chi instructors have told their students to step in the middle of the foot also.
To play the devils advocate - I also know that other instructors have taught there are instances when to step with the heel.
Stepping with the heel with the toe pointing inward not forward give more stability and balance especially when moving back and forth. If I use the ball of my foot I can be pushed off balance more easily. IMHO

I agree with the foot pointed inward thing. I too find it gives some more stability. I think really it is hard to say what is better or worse. Things happen fast in a fight. Balance is one of the key things to always maintain as best you can...
