Confucius institute to be set up in Scotland


A Confucius institute which symbolizes traditional Chinese culture is going to be set up in Scotland, said Scottish First Minister Jack McConnell here Monday.

"Tomorrow I will officially announce the institute's establishment," said McConnell, noting that the approach indicates the partnership between China and Scotland has jumped beyond economics.

Most Chinese may know Scotland only by kilts, whisky and bagpines, but Scotland is also a world center of finance, life science, electronic techniques. More understanding between the two peoples are needed, said the First Minister.
