Although I do not practice Southern Mantis I am intreaged by the art its self. It is a shame that there is not more particapation, but your post or others may change that.:D
Thanks in advance, James HFYofAZ

Cynikal Mantis,
That is a good question but hopefully that will all change now with your arrival and eagerness to promote the arts. Good luck.

Cynikal,
Do you have a web site for your school? Speaking of family where are the rest of the members from your family that want to discuss kung fu. :)

Good to be part of this forum but the point of having a forum is that people can Question your posts , I thought that this was the whole point of a forum or do you expect people to accept what is put dowm without questioning. All styles have benifits they are not better just different.
Exchange of ideas , Techniques etc is a course of learning . People must accept that there are diffrent roads to the top of the mountain. Some go via motor way others like to shop on the way.

Hi, Tony, cynikal mantis everyone else.
First off if I may, I have some questions for cynikal mantis.
What are the keyword formulas in your mantis system?'
Can you state some of the basic forms?
and name some of the drills that are taught?
thanks alot, i practised Qi Xing Tang Lang Pai.
Our basic forms that are taught are:
Gong Li Quan (Kune Nek Kuen)
Sap Yi Lo Tan Tui (12 section)
Sap Sei Lo Tan Tui(14 section)
Beng Bu (Bong Bo)
Sap Pa Sau
Chap Choy
Tui Jing
Bagua dao
They also practise a Qigong form called Lohan Gong (which is 18 sections, and generally takes an hour to perform)
some of the drills include a type of Chi Sau (almost like Taiji push hands) its like a mix between Taji push hands and Ving Tsun's Seung Chi Sau. They also have a single Chi sau method (close to dan chi sau)
you have both external and internal conditioning excersises. You start out hitting sand bags, then tree's or wooden benches, and then to concrete walls or some type of metal. There are also footwork drills and sensitivity drills.
and quite a bit more. this is the basic drills and forms for the novice level.
hope this helps,
take care

Hi ya,
Chow Gar SPM has a few sonnets / poems which provide insight into the techiques, stance, fighting. These are two of them :-
The Sonnet of Chow Gar Praying Mantis Fist
The hanging power is like a noose that opens and contracts.
The hands that seize hold and catch.
The head is down, eyes look sharp like that of a cat.
The ribs open and close like the hinge of a door.
The legs are bent like a frog ready to spring.
When you achieve something in Tong Long Kuen then you are about to begin.
Stance
The stance is not shaped like a T.
The stance is not shaped like a V.
Start your hands that come from your heart,
You dont come I wont start.
Some of the forms are:
saam bo gin (3 step arrow punch),
saam bo yui kui (3 step shake off the bridge),
saam bo pai kui (3 step slicing bridge),
saam bo pin kui (3 step level bridge),
yum yearn kum la sau (ying yang seizing hands),
fut sau (buddhist hands).
Drills and exercises include step work, san sau, conditioning, rib training, chi gung and many more. Many of the exercises are done with a partner. Some of these include Chy Sau griding arm, Doy Chong, grinding leg, body / limbs conditioning, and chongs incorporating techniques where a partner attacks / defends and moves.
Hope that helps, there is so much more, just do a search on the net and theres loads of info available.
