This past weekend, Sifu Meng, John Lambert, Sifu Wayne Shultz, and Sifu Brad Ryan came to Rochester NY for a Hung Fa Yi workshop and training with the Rochester club members.
Everyone arrived at the palacial Kalish estate at various times on Friday night. Wayne now knows the surrounding suburbs of the west side better than I do. We spent the remainder of the evening catching up and discussing various kung fu topics.
Saturday started at 9am with the first Rochester Public HFY workshop given by Sifu Meng at the Rochester Engineering Society building. From 9am to 4pm Sifu went through a very thorough, cohesive presentation that leveraged off of the first 6 levels of the VTM's latest curriculum. Overriding themes included reality in martial arts as highlighted by a progression from saan kiu drills (across all ranges of combat) through wing kiu focused training. The remainder of Saturday included a dinner out with kung fu family, spouses, and children, followed by late night kung fu discussions.
Sunday started at 9am as well with a review of the chum kiu form and its applications with the more senior students followed by additional training of the various HFY SNT progressions with the entire group. So much time was spent on wing chun that the travellers had to take their lunch/dinner on the road.
I really want to thank Sifu and everyone else who helped him make the weekend's events great ones. I would also encourage the attendees to post their thoughts on the workshop as well.
