I've seen this number used in descriptions of forms, philosophies, and even the art forms them selves.108 Movements of Wu Style Tai Chi Chu'an, Pechurin Kata (108). Yang style tai chi/ Yang Taijiguan long form- with there 108 forms of practice.
Yup Bot Ling Bot (108)"Most Fujian/Guangdong arts seem to have only a very small number of core forms, with expansion happening later as they spread. Jook Lum still has that "core" system of forms (8, 18, 108), that would be similar to the Chu Gar's root.
It is the master's form, only taught to those who are formally accepted by the master. It is a two man form teaching 108 vital points (36 lethal - 72 paralyzing). Medicine is taught at this stage along with a spiritual gong fu (Shun Kung).
This sticky hand form teaches precision in attack, defense and counter attack of those vital areas. This skills are supported by the Monkey stepping (low). However, this training is not taught publicly. 108 has origin in symbolic Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism. It represents the 36-72 Heavenly and Earthly spirits which complete nature."

In Chinese numerology, the number three (and multiples thereof) , as well as the number 108 have spiritual significance. For this reason, you will find that the movements in the Wing Chun forms and on the Muk Jong are contrived to fit into these numbers primarily for their numeric and spiritual significance. It has little to do with the actual number of movements."
from a William Chueng Web site"With only months in which to train Yim Wing Chun, Ng Mui concentrated only on the most essential, direct and effective techniques and training methods in her instruction. The techniques would need to allow Wing Chun to overcome the gangster, who was bigger, stronger, and more experienced than she. As the 108 dummies of the Shaolin temple no longer existed, Ng Mui developed a single dummy on which all 108 dummy movements could be practiced. Yim Wing Chun trained day and night, and, when the gangster returned, she was ready. Soundly beaten, the disgraced gangster left and never returned.
I did a search of Wing Chun 108 and found over 9,500 listing and another for just 108. This was a staggering number of over 24 million listings. Just for laughs One should go to MC Donald's and order one item from the $1.00 menu and see the out come. Here in the state of Arizona it comes out to ???.
