Hungman, I have not read the material you ask about but am still curious if you have a comparison to make of the 2 arts you speak of.

Unless you have another David Peterson registered here, I guess that means I have to take the rap....yes, I am the author of the book in question, "Look Beyond the Pointing Finger: the Combat Philosophy of Wong Shun Leung'. I won't try to answer the question regarding the comparison of the WSL lineage with that of the late Moy Yat (I have good friends of that lineage and have full respect for their methods, whether they differ from my own, or not), but I am interested to know whether or not you found it rewarding to read the book and arrived at an appreciation of my late teacher's approach. Don't worry, I'm open to comments of both a positive or negative nature as one can learn from either.

Sifu Peterson,
I am currently reading your book. So far, it is very fascinating. You were very priveledge to learn from Sifu Wong Shun Leung. From the context, Sifu Wong Shun Leung was a unique individual, the way he thinks/behaves. I look forward to finishing the book in the coming days. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Sihing68,
I am pleased that you are enjoying the book and hope that you will gain much from it on successive readings. My Sifu was a very unique individual and I consider myself quite fortunate and very priviliged to have been one of his students. What made him so special was his down-to-earth approach to life, and his no-nonsense attitude to martial arts. Many of today's so-called (and self proclaimed) "masters" could learn a lot from him about humility and ability. They didn't call him 'Gong Sau Wong' for nothing....he let his deeds do the talking, not his ego. All the Best in your training,
Regards,
DMP

Sifu Peterson,
I just recently heard that the book can only be purchased from you. If so I am interested in finding out how I might add your book to my collection.

For those who are eager to know more about e.g. the form in the WSL-lineage . . . this book doesn't show you the forms. It presents something more valuable: it gives you what it is all about in the eyes of Wong Shun Leung.
The 'picture' that Mr. Peterson more or less has given me of WSL is that the man really must have been clear, straight forward and down to earth . . . not only when it relates to WC!
I like to study and I like to read. Although it seldom happens that I feel the strong urge to read a book again . . . and again.
This book is one of the exceptions . . .
And I know for sure that the next exception will be there in less than a month!!
regards
Ben

Hello all,
first time on the board and there's something I can give a short comment on.
Since the WSL Method has already been discussed and I like many others really enjoyed Peterson Sifu's book.... I'll give my perspective coming from the Moy Clan.
WSL Method from what I have felt, is very similar to our kung fu, probably the cosest thing to what I recognize as "Ving Tsun":D . Lots of forward pressure and uprooting in Chi Sau and it is trained very realistically, never static. From what I have seen, from the few WSL practioners I have touched hands with, they focus more on good energy and my family focuses more on precise position. A few details are different which is to be expected, I personally (and our family) have a lot of respect for the WSL Method. I wish there were some WSL guys here in TX to train with.
But then again, a lot of the Moy Family Kung Fu is taught very different from each other since a lot of our kung fu was really developed open-ended with our own interpretation.

Aarron,
nice to read you...
Just wanted to say that from what I've seen and experienced of bad WC schools imho. The Moy Yat schools definitely were not among them.

There a lot of good kung fu schools and there are a lot more bad ones... All I can say is that I could of ended up with any of them when I was a kid and that I am so fortunate to have found the one I did.
I have never experienced HFY but would lik eto some day.
