An idea hit me tonight.
Tell me what you think.

A quarterly “Hung Fa Yi” newsletter that can be posted online.
The newsletter would cover all the HFY schools containing events, articles, pictures,
birthdays, promotions, news etc…even an article titled “Sifu’s Corner”

I imagine something like this would be 2-4 pages long.

With email, digital cameras and easy to use graphic software this shouldn’t be to hard to put together if all the schools throw in a small piece.

A lot of the information is posted on this forum. We just need to organize it in a format..maybe even print it out for students without online access.

Great idea Derek. I noticed that some of your interests were computers and photography and since it was such a good suggestion that I nominate you to be the project leader for this project.

I will be the lead from the San Francisco school and make sure things get done. Photographs of the different training's will have to be approved by sifu Gee but in general I think we need to do something to spark the participation and interest.

If there are people that are interested in helping out please contact either Derek or myself....

Only half kidding about taking the lead Derek but if you have the time it would be great.

HA!!!
I'd be more than happy if the school will expense my traveling
for the newsletter...maybe even Brazil :-> lol.
If everyone agrees, we should find interested people in
each school to contribute.

I'm in no position to write articles for HFY. The pressure
would be on the sifu's, sihings, instructors or anyone with
in depth knowledge.

Pictures and format I can help with and maybe some ideas.
I'm sure everyone can pitch in. The final word should be with
the Sifu's on how the newsletter is run. (my opinion)

Another idea...A section on learning Chinese...alphabet, counting, culture.....Chan buddishm philosply etc....I know I'm getting to far ahead of myself.

Anyway, the idea is out there.

I may be missing the point but can't this sight be the newsletter. I mean this site is filled with open options JK just needs to add them. We have a private section that info for just HFY members can get posted. Traveling is at our fingertips, and ever time someone does go to something outside the family’s seminars it's posted here. This site is capable of so much more if only people would add stuff. What we need is more discussions. More people to post. Stop being scared of what might be said and say what you want to say, that’s what I say. Hey hey hey.
What your saying is WE NEED MORE COMUNICATION BETWEEN SCHOOLS. I see the same people on the forum, and a couple of newbies(GOOD) we need to have more open discussions and develop more topics
Not trying to shut your ideas down because we have room for that as well. Just saying that this place is a little dry as far as Q and A's. It’s starting to pick up. I have been looking at old posts to see what could be refreshed as far as info, so look forward to lot-o-reading! Just a thought from this dark room!

Well you make vaild points. Nevertheless, there's something
about relaxing in a chair holding a paper and reading some artiicles. Even with the internet, the Sunday paper is an
enjoyable read.
Here's my thinking.
#1 How many students in the school have internet connection?
#2 What is the percentage of students using this forum? penetration rate of the students.
#3 Newsletter cuts down on opinions and gives facts. A voice
for the higher ranking people.

A newsletter is not to replace this forum but help supplement whats been created.

Not everyone has time to read the 30 post replys to a question.
Takes up a lot of personal time. I'd rather just get the facts
from the Sifus/Sihings and if the topic interests me I wouldnt mind debating it online or reading other's opinions.

James I have to agree with you.

JK and others have spent a great deal of time in order to provide a means of communication that is great. The problem is that only a select few (2%) of the students utilize it.

If we created a newsletter then it would mean more work for some and no real way of knowing if people actually spent the time to read and understood the information presented. One way communication is not the answer.

My suggestion is that each month we have a different forum topic. Maybe we can even coordinate a point of training focus that each school could be working on at the same time allowing more effective and relevant communication. This topic would of course be one of a number of topics that may be covered by each school during that month but at least would provide a common ground for discussion. I agree that some people do not have access to the internet and we should make some accomodations for them. We could print out the threads each week and pass them out in class to those that want them.

First off, lets use our time in SFHQ to see who’s were and what’s what to determine or define our way of improving this idea. Because of right now I would say that the other schools are in different stages of learning. This trip will be a good why of see WHO is Doing and Who is saying Doing! Then we can grasp a better game plane, at least from my view. This is not to say we can't start gathering stuff to talk about ( daun chi sau & chi sau relation). All training is training as long as we're in reality when doing, otherwise we are training elusions.;)
Just a thought!
