GM Hoffman,
Thank you for posting that article comparing Chi Sim and Hung Ga. How much similarities are there between these two systems of S. Shaolin? Has your research led you to different conclusions about the two systems?

Hello Steve,
the article is not comparing "eternal spring" with Hung Gar. It is comparing "praise spring" (Siu Lim Tao-Chum Kiu-Biu Chi) and Hung Gar.
I learned Hung Gar from my weng chun GM Pak Cheung and from GM Chiu Chi Ling. All my weng chun ancestors see a big difference to Hung Gar and it is for example a traditional training method in Weng Chun that the attacker with the long pole use Hung Gar or Wudang pole methods. Also there are some stories of my ancestors how they converted from Hung Gar to Weng Chun after they fought with a Weng Chun master, for example GM Fung Siu Ching converted proud Hung Gar people Dung Jik and Dung On.
Personal I see also a lot of similiarities: 12 Kiu Sao - Qi Gong - buddhist background - main weapons:long pole/douple knives - etc.

Even though our styles consists of Siu Lum Tao, Chum Kiu and Biu Ji, like GM Hoffman points out, the Wudang Weng Shun Kuen style IS nevertheless PERPETUAL Springtime Fist and NOT Springtime Song Fist. This goes for several versions of the art, like Pan Nam's and Chan Yiu Min's.
The interpretation of the forms in Wudang Weng Shun Kuen is worlds apart from that in modern Wing Chun Kuen. Even though they share forms, the styles are hardly comparable. One could say Wudang Weng Shun Kuen is much closer in philosophy and application to TaiJi Quan and such.
Take a look and see for yourself!
