Hung Heigun created Hung Ga between 1770 and 1800. Hung Heigun’s original family name was Jyu. After he escaped the burning of Southern Siulam monastery he went into hiding and changed his name to Hung – as a tribute the first emperor of Ming dynasty, who ruled under the name Hungmou.
Hung Heigun combined his Siulam Lohon style with Black Tiger and Fukgin White Crane style, thus forming the first basic version of the style. The style was originally a short-range system and consisted mainly of practicing single techniques as well as conditioning and body-hardening drills. Therefore there were very few sets. The style was developed as part of the anti-Manchurian rebellion atmosphere of the time, with primary aim to fight against the Manchu invaders that occupied China.

Hung Heigun’s original family name was Jyu.
Our GM Garrett Gee has the same family name (Gee_Chu_Zhu_Chi_Jyu) as the Hung Ga GM Hung Heigun.
