Combinations of Family Styles

It's my understanding that the Choy Lay Fut system is the combination of Choy and Fut family styles, first, is this correct? Secondly, what in your system's history tells you why these two family styles merged instead of remaining seperate like some of the other southern family styles, such as Hung Ga and Lao Ga?
