I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Sifu Meng for stopping off and spending some quality time in Rochester, NY while on his way from Dayton to NYC. (Sorry Sifu, you just missed the first Rochester snowfall by one day...)
Sifu came to Rochester Friday night and spent from that time until Saturday afternoon helping me continue the development of the Rochester club. We discussed everything from technical information to curriculum to teaching methods to organizational structure. We would not be anywhere near where we are in our growth without his tireless help.
Then from 4:30pm to almost 9:30pm Sifu spent time with some of the Rochester Club members covering the first few levels of the VTM curriculum. In addition to a great workout, Sifu's workshop provided a very clear overview of foundational Shaolin Wing Chun information and training. After starting with an excellent overview of Shaolin Wing Chun and the VTM's research to date, we then progressed through basic exercises, basic movements, saan kiu drills and fundamental HFY training.
Afterwards we had a nice dinner with Sifu and some of our wives. (Any time you can combine your family with your kung fu family, the time savings are priceless...) I know Rochester is not as big a city as NYC or SF, but I didn't think it would be as hard as it was to find someplace to eat at 10pm on a Saturday night! After a few false starts, we found a decent Asian restaurant that was open until 11pm. Of course, we were the only ones there.
After turning in at a little after midnight, Sifu was up (without any need for an alarm clock) and going at 5:15am Sunday morning. He was off to NYC to visit more kung fu family members as well as the resident Shaolin monks. I must confess that I went back to bed. I just don't have the kung fu energizer batteries that Sifu does...
Boundless thanks to Sifu for taking time out of his busy schedule to come visit us. I t was much appreciated as always!
