On January 9, 2005 We held a special seminar in Cincinnati. It was special because it was a closed, by invitation only, event. In attendance were Sa Boms and Sa Bom Nims of Tang Soo Do who were students and grand student of Grand Master Kyung Won Ahn.
It was GM Ahn who brought the style to Cincinnati, and was a direct student of Grand Master Hwang Kee. GM Hwang Kee was the originator of Tang Soo Do, who at the age of 22 had mastered two styles in Korea and then spent 9 years in China studying the "Tang" method. It was from this background that he developed Tang Soo Do "The Way of the China Hand".
The person who set up this event was Grand Master Charles Emery, who has embraced HFYWK as a student and studies at our Cincinnati Kwoon. Master Emery began the seminar by thanking the attendees for coming and having an open mind to the study of the martial arts.
I gave a brief history of HFY and then introduced my Sifu, Master Benny Meng. Sifu then presented the Seminar, covering the basics of HFY and continuing through the Wing Chun punch. His presentation was well recieved. There will be follow up and ongoing activity as I pursue my goal of establishing HFY, Grand Master Gee, and Master Meng as viable parts of the martial arts community in the Cincinnati area.
